Riga Salsa Festival 2015

12.6. – 14.6.2015

by Olu Olu

A well organised fun festival right in the heart of the beautiful Baltic city of Riga. There were 3 rooms every night but I spent all my time in the Mambo room. The Friday and Saturday night venue was huge with a free cloak room. The festivals venues were all in the Old Town therefore comfortable walking distances for anyone who also booked hotel/apartments in the old town. The Mambo room was spacious enough for the size of this event. Plenty of room for dancing couples and for people to move around. A lot of the ladies mentioned that the floor was ‘too slippery’ but I thought it perfect. I like a fast floor! But general the atmosphere was great all weekend with DJs Mauri and The Viper again demonstrating how a mixed music policy does really work. The DJs played awesome sets on all nights but especially at the farewell Sunday party at Rock Café..

Riga is a lovely laid back city with a lot of character. Many reasonably priced places to eat and have coffee. I for one can’t wait to go back to enjoy the atmosphere of the city. Bar prices were very reasonable; 3.50 Euros for a Cuba Libre and 5 Euros for a Mojito

I didn’t do workshops or watch any shows so I hope some of the other attendees can fll in this big gap for me

It is worth noting that this is a cheap festival to attend; return flight less than £35, Accomodation for the whole weekend £60, party pass £55, total cost of getting to ad from the airport 10euros each in a shared taxi!!!!

Highlight of the weekend? Dancing on the roof terrace on Sunday

Low point? The worst tuna steak ever from Rockabilly.
